Design & Craftsmanship
The fusion of both is basis for Heinemann Freehand Pipes
Design
I studied five years product design at the University of Hannover and received my M.A. degree. My pipe design is strongly influenced by pipemakers like the Ivarssons, J. Alan pipes or Cornelius Maenz. However, I also like pipe makers which think outside the box like Christian Wolfensteiner as an inspiration to find new ways in designing beautiful smoking devices.
I would describe my own style as simple, clear and uncomplicated. My focus lies also on fluid and elegant lines combined with high usability. I strive to create only truly unique pieces. High gloss finish, good airflow, thin mouthpieces are important for me in pipe making.

Craftsmanship
Before studying design, I successfully passed a three years apprenticeship as a carpenter. That solid background allows me to create both highly elegant and perfectly usable pipes.
I have a strong passion for high product quality, from the shape and design to the tiniest level of details. Of course, only highest quality materials are used for Heinemann pipes: Aged plateau briar wood from Italy, Spain or Greece. Stems are 100 percent handmade from highest grade German Ebonite. Applications and inlays made of beautiful woods, bones or horn.

Signature Shapes
In the course of my time as a pipe maker, I have designed several pipe shapes that I would call my own creations - so called signature shapes. These are both original shapes and interpretations of existing ones. In the following I would like to introduce some of these and their origin.
